Velvet

I’d always intended to publish a free short story for Pride but 'Coffee', the original one I wrote, ended up featuring a character who’s appearance in the main novel is too important to spoil… so I gently put that back on the shelf and turned my mind to writing something featuring characters and a story that could be read as a standalone.
Then I wrote ‘Sangria’, expanding on some of Lance’s history. Managed it in time, loved the story I wrote, but it was sad. Too sad for Pride, when every opportunity to celebrate should be embraced to its full extent 🥳
So I went back to my ideas folder and sifted again, hunting for a time, a place, and characters that could all come together and serve the right themes. And I wrote ‘Velvet’.
It’s NOT a trad romance story.
It IS messy, complicated and bittersweet.
The warmth of a candle flickering in the dark, held by two women that know what awaits them when it burns down.
I hope you enjoy it.
